Namdaemun(Sungnyemun), National Treasure No.1, was built in 1398. It served as the gate through the fortress walls surrounding the downtown Seoul. Moreover it is one of the most recognized landmarks in Korea. Nearby is Namdaemun Market, Korea's largest and most prominent conventional open market. Also within walking distance are lots of modern cultural heritages and tourist attractions. On the 41th World Wide Sketchcrawl, It was fine weather for sketching, I sketched around Namdaemun with Seoul urban sketchers pleasantly.

I've sketched around Seoul Station many times for several years. Especially,I've always been fascinated by the scenic beauty of the Former Seoul Railroad Station building, connected with the new Seoul Station.The Former Seoul Railroad Station was constructed in an Eclectic Renaissance style in 1925. The building was distinguished by the classical symmetry in its overall composition and its non-classical features, including the central dome, a small steeple and the wings that were attatched to the central part of the building.
Currently, the building is composed of cultural venues for exhibition and performance, along with educational facility.
Last Saturday, I sketched the attractive historic building at difference angles.

소담한 초록빛 돔과 벽돌 마디마디, 하얀 기둥 장식이 아름답게 비친다.
100년 세월의 낯익은 建築 樣式의 뒤안길에는~~~
근대사의 시련과 영욕이 "우리 시대의 거울"속에 녹아 흐르고
수많은 사람들의 스쳐간 발자욱 속에 나의 일기장도 같이 쌓여간다.
서울驛舍는 서울의 歷史....오늘을 그리며 서울의 미래를 상상하는 즐거움~~

I usually sketch buildings before my eyes, searching familiar places in my spare time. As for me, the old fashioned buildings are more attractive than the up-to-date style buildings in feeling. These works are sketched on the spot around my familiar streets from place to place recently.

Last Saturday, I joined Seoul sketchcrawl around Dongdaemun Design Plaza. Dongdaemun and its surroundings are always attractive and interesting for our urban sketchers. This is because those have the colorful sceneries including the history of metropolitan Seoul. We enjoyed sketching in and outside the Doota Building situated in the center of shopping center buildings. Welcome the new comers and congratulations on Seoul sketchcrawl!

A few days ago, the weather was oppressively hot and humid, I went out sketching to Ttukseom Hangang Park to avoid the hot summer. Ttukseom Hangang Park, located on the banks of the Han River in Seoul, is a very pleasant area to enjoy some leisure time in natural surroundings. Hundreds of people unable to leave Seoul's asphalt jungle crowded swimming pool or the Han River's banks to try to escape the heat. I sketched some lively sceneries from place to place around Ttukseom Resort near the Han River.

It was rainy and inclement weather, I joined in 40th World Wide SketchCrawl with Seoul sketchers around Jogyesa Temple located in downtown Seoul. Jogyesa Temple is an oasis of spiritual peace in the heart of the bustling metropolis. There are some historic cultural properties including traditional Korean architectures. Along the street around Jogyesa are many Buddhist specialty shops and some colorful facilities related to Buddhism. The traditional space in urban center is very interesting for our urban skechers. I sketched various sceneries here and there, looking around the peaceful temple.

도심사찰은 복잡하고 생동감 넘치는 현대도시에서 오아시스 같이 정서를 맑게 해 줍니다. 옛 것과 오늘이 공존하는 도시의 모습은 어반 스케쳐들에게 많은 흥미와 매력을 제공하는데, 특히 4대문 안의 문화재와 풍물들은 마르지 않는 스케치 소재라 할 수 있습니다.새로 참여하신 분들을 환영하며~~신선한 스케치와 더불어 많은 활약을 기대합니다.

Seoul is a concentrated city that has both a long history and a modern society. The cityscape of downtown Seoul has rapidly changed in the late 20th century due to robust economic growth over the past 50 years. In the heart of Seoul surrounded with a number of the high-rise buildings, a few of the elegant western style buildings have well preserved as the modern cultural heritage. All in all, these buildings were completed in the early 20th century and located at financial and business districts, such as Myeongdong, Namdaemunno, and so on.

I sketched the precious historical buildings in the crowded streets, looking back on the last century.

( 좌우 대칭형 문화재 건물은 그리기 쉬워 보이나, 조금만 틀려도 금새 표가 나기 때문에 스케치 연마하기에 알맞는 좋은 소재입니다...)
