Last weekend, during the Chuseok, Korean Thanksgiving holidays, I visited Cheonggyecheon and sketched the colorful sceneries walking along the stream for two days. The Cheonggyecheon is a stream running through central Seoul from west to east. There are 22 bridges that cross the stream and every bridge has its own historic name and unique form. Until it was restored in 2005, Cheonggyecheon Stream existed only as a neglected waterway hidden by an overpass. Nowadays, it has been transformed into a haven of natural beauty amidst the bustle of city life. 

The weather was so fine all through the  Chuseok holidays, I enjoyed sketching several cityscapes from Cheonggye Plaza to Pyeonghwa Fashion Town near Dongdaemun Gate.

1년 만에 다시 그려보는 청계천의 가을 하늘이 새롭습니다..

어두웠던 그림자와 햇살의 눈부심이 겹쳐가며 흐르는 푸른 오아시스~~

다리마다 건물마다 옛과 오늘의 영상이 파노라마같이 출렁거립니다. 

이틀을 그렸어도 소재가 마를 새 없이 넘쳐나는 청계천 풍물입니다.

Last Saturday, the weather was fine to sketch. Seoul urban sketchers met at the Anglican Church of Korea and sketched various scenes around Jeong-dong street near Deoksugung Palace. I sketched lovely buildings in historic downtown Seoul reminiscing about the good old days.

A few days ago, in a hot summer weather, I visited a beautiful exotic village and had a lovely sketch time in the outskirts. Petite France (쁘띠 프랑스) in Gapyeong County (Gyeonggi-do, Korea) is a famous French culture Village and it is only an hour drive from Seoul.

Petite France consists of 16 French style buildings where the visitors can experience French food, clothing, and household culture. Entering the gate of the village, I came across a few European style architecture, colorful buildings on the low hill. Inside, there are paintings, dolls, live band performance, souvenirs shop, convenience store and what most valuable is the view of Han river with colorful panoramic landscape of countryside.
I sketched some exotic buildings and antique exhibits feeling like a child for a while. It was a fantastic sketch time.

Seoul City Hall is one of the most favorite place to sketch in downtown Seoul, so I posted some sketches on usk blog several times. The old city hall building and newly built city hall show not only combination of the architectural style, but historical change of the modern Seoul.

Last Saturday, for the 48th World Wide SketchCrawl, Seoul usk members met at the Seoul Citizens' Hall that is located on the basement floor of Seoul City Hall. The Citizens' Hall serves as a courtyard where Seoulites share their creativity and individuality while participating in various programs such as discussion meetings, workshops, seminars, concerts, exhibitions, special events, and wedding ceremonies.

The day was wet weather with the rainy season, so at first I sketched city hall buildings and streetscape outdoors between rains in the morning.

After lunch, enjoying various kinds of performances at Citizens' Hall, I drew some colorful and fantastic sceneries with excitement.

Seodaemun Museum of Natural History is located in Seodaemun-gu in Seoul, Korea. The museum was planned and constructed by the Seodaemun District Office. After 6 years of planning and construction, the museum opened on July 10th, 2003. The purpose of the foundation is to preserve, to study and to exhibit geological and biological records about the local environment.The museum is organized around three main themes over three floors, and displays the history of nature and life vividly through various real specimens of minerals, rocks, and fossils (including dinosaurs, animals, and insects from all over the world), but also displays them with up-to date display technologies such as models, dioramas, and stereopsis displays.

These days I visited the museum with pleasant surroundings and enjoyed exciting sketch time in and out of the museum, appreciating the precious natural assets.
