I think that lots of people in the world would know about the candle rally on Saturdays in Seoul. I participated in two times on Nov. 19 and 26. The number of participants increased to 1.5 million in Seoul and 1.9 in national scale. And it was amazing that all the demonstrations were absolutely peaceful. The organizers proceeded like festivals with volunteer speakers and famous singers. Sketching among the moving demonstrating citizens from all the nation was really valuable experience to me. I was impressed so much by the waving candles like stream on broad street in nightscape.

Last Sunday, the Street Fine Art festival was held in Gwanghwamun Square hosted by Korean Fine Arts Association. Gwanghwamun Square is a public area in front of Gwanghwamun and located in the heart of central Seoul that features museums, statues, restaurants, and beautiful surrounding views. I joined in the festival as a member of Korea Outdoor Watercolor Artists' group, and sketched the well-known landmarks, buildings and colorful panoramic sceneries about the bustling streets. There was an air of festivity throughout the Gwanghwamun square. It was also a memorable day for me by sketching the various monumental buildings and landmarks standing on the very center in the heart of Seoul.

서울의 상징 광화문 주변에서의 그림은 언제나 그려도 새로웁고, 생기 넘치는 도시의 변화무쌍하고 다양한 소재의 매력에 빠져들게 됩니다. 그동안 이 일대의 스케치를 많이 했지만 광화문 네거리 한복판에서 이젤 펼치고 그린 기념적인 날이기도 했습니다. 서울 도심과 주변의 다채로운 소재들을 수없이 그리면서 느끼는 점은~~~
역사 문화의 자취와 미래상이 맞물려가며, 약동하는 삶의 물결 속에서 무궁무진한 소재들이 넘쳐나는 서울은 "현장을 그리는 화가들의 천국"이라고 실감했습니다.

Gwanghwamun Square is a national landmark in the heart of Seoul, and is one of the most favorite places for Seoul urban sketchers.

It was a little cloudy and chilly yesterday. We sketchers met together and sketched around the statue of King Sejong the Great at the center of Gwanghwamun Square. I took a seat on the stone chair by the roadside consistently, and sketched looking around the various cityscapes. I'm deeply grateful to Mr. Huh Young Jin, for planning the meaningful event encouraging our urban sketchers.
